A Night of Ecofabulous:
The Intersection between Style and Sustainability
The focus of the event was to encourage thoughtful, sustainable and healthier choices in each aspect of our lives from school, to lifestyle, to home and garden.
The evening started with a presentation by Branson students involved in the "Healthy Schools Initiative," a program of Search for the Cause, talking about their process and findings in identifying toxic substances on their school campuses and seeking non toxic alternatives that could replace those products. Their presentation included items found in the classroom like dry erase board pens and carpeting to cleaning products like bleach and hand sanitizer. Branson teachers and students showcased their new "green classroom: for all guests to visit, a partnership with local business Green Fusion demonstrating how simple changes can have a powerful impact on learning. Green Guru, Zem Joaquin, founder of ecofabulous.com was the keynote speaker for the evening and led a dynamic interactive presentation focused on the eco-chic green life, punctuating each point with visuals and captivating the audience.
Before and after the presentation, the Teens for Safe Cosmetics signature Green Spa was open for guests to be educated and indulge in green beauty. Representatives from the hosting companies were there to speak to the attendees. A sumptuous organic dinner was prepared by Branson Chef Richard Bartlett with the support of Whole Foods Market and Good Earth Natural Foods. Desserts and snacks were provided by Beth's Cookies, Whole Foods Market and Larabar. The evening was a fantastic success thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters for their generosity.
A very special and heartfelt thanks to Hilary Sturtevant, Sarah Weigel and Kelly Prescutti for their fantastic work with all of the students and for bringing the green classroom to life and to the students involved in the Healthy Schools Initiative for doing an outstanding presentation. Thanks to Greg Snowden, Owner of Green Fusion Design Center in San Anselmo for his guidance and consultation in each aspect of the "green classroom" project. The Healthy Schools Initiative: Marin will build and engage many schools in this community over the next few months. Please let us know if you would like to be involved.
